Microchipping

Lost pets can be reunited with their family thanks to microchips. Simple, safe, and effective.

Try as you might, you cannot be in more than one place at once. It’s impossible to supervise pets 24/7. Fortunately, we now have tools such as microchips that increase our chances of being reunited with our pets should they ever get lost. To find out more about these devices, please give us a call at 613-824-7511.

Once my pet is microchipped, will I know their location at all times?

No. Microchips are not like a GPS. We encode your contact info and your pet’s vitals onto the chip. Then, it can be scanned by veterinary centers who find your lost pet. They will be able to extract the information in the chip and contact you to reunite you with your pet. They are essentially like a permanent ID inside your pet.

My pet already has a nametag, do they really need a microchip?

In our professional opinion, yes. Dog or cat collars are great, but they can fall off or wear down over time. Once inserted in your pet, microchips last their lifetime. They can also be updated with your latest contact info and your pet’s health details repeatedly.

When should I get my pet microchipped?

It can be safely done at any age, but we recommend that patients are approximately 8-weeks-old before they get microchipped. It is often performed during their puppy/kitten vaccination series. The procedure is minimally invasive and involves very little pain.
