Providing support, guidance, and compassionate care during a difficult time.
Unfortunately, our furry family members cannot be with us forever. Saying goodbye to them is a natural part of pet ownership, but that does not make it any less of a painful experience. When the time comes that you are considering end-of-life care for your pet, please know that our team is here to walk you through the entire process. Don’t hesitate to contact us at 613-824-7511 to find out how we can help you through this difficult time.
Euthanasia, otherwise known as assisted death, is the most humane way to let your pet cross the rainbow bridge. It is considered for pets with terminal illnesses, chronic pain, or other severe health issues that are no longer responsive to treatment. It is 100% pain free. The euthanasia drug is given via IV and causes the patient to fall into a peaceful sleep. Then, once they are unconscious, it will cause their heart, lungs and other organs to stop. The process is complete in a matter of minutes.
Absolutely. We conduct the procedure in a private and quiet area of our hospital. You will have ample time to say your goodbyes before, during and after the euthanasia. Please feel free to bring your pet’s favourite toys or other items to provide some extra comfort. We understand that some pet parents find it too painful to be present for the procedure. That is completely ok. Please know that our technicians will make sure your pet is comforted until their last moments.
Everyone experiences grief differently. Through the years, we have seen clients celebrate their pets’ lives in so many ways. Some create scrapbooks of their fondest memories; others hold funerals where their loved ones share memories with the pet. Many families also have paintings made of their pet. Some owners choose to have their pet cremated. Whatever you choose, we can advise you on the best way to move forward and recommend service providers that will cater to your unique needs. We also have access to pet grief counsellors should you decide to go down that path.
