Bloodwork

Monitoring your pet's health is crucial because they may not show obvious signs of illness.

Taking samples of your pet’s blood and analysing them are a routine part of their healthcare routine. Both healthy and unwell pets need their bloodwork checked regularly. This helps our team establish their baseline levels, diagnose any potential issues, and monitor ongoing illnesses. If you would like to learn more about our bloodwork services here at Orleans, please give us a call at 613-824-7511.

Is bloodwork painful for pets?

Not at all. They may feel a very slight pinching sensation, but for the most part, the process is similar to any other kind of vaccine or injection

My pet is afraid of needles, what should I do?

Please let us know ahead of time if your pet has any type of anxiety or fear of needles. Our veterinarians and technicians are Fear Free Certified. This means we have extensive training on how to minimize stress among our patients. This applies to all procedures we perform – including bloodwork. For severe cases of anxiety, we may choose to sedate the patient so they do not have to go through any unnecessary stress.

When will my pet’s blood need to be drawn?

There are different times and instances where our veterinarians will request bloodwork:

  • During a routine wellness exam (as part of regular diagnostic checks)
  • Before surgery to determine if your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia (and the amount the will require)
  • While diagnosing for certain diseases, infections or conditions
